U.N. votes for partition of Palestine

November 29, 1947, the United Nations voted for the partition of Palestine and the creation of a Jewish State. Far back as the 1910s, the Jews, emigrants from Europe and Russia, and native Palestinian Arabs claimed rights to the British controlled territory. In 1929, Britain limited Jewish immigration to appeasing the native Arabs. However, many Jewish people illegally entered Palestine during World War II because of the Holocaust. Britain presented the problem to the United Nations, which voted for the partition of Palestine.
