60-Second Good-To-Knows: 9/27/2010

This week’s topic: Grammar

On the capitalization of titles:

It is often hard to determine which words should be capitalized on a title.

Words that should be capitalized:
-All first and last words of the title
-All nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives
-Conjunctions & prepositions of five letters or more

Words that should not be capitalized:

-Articles (the, a, an); unless the article is the first or last word of the title
-Conjunctions & prepositions of four letters or less (unless it’s the first or last word)
-The particle “to” used with an infinitive (unless it’s the first or last word)

Examples:
-The Girl with the Red Apple
-Susan Goes to Town
